This is a foundational course designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of basic computer concepts.
This course serves as an entry point for students with little to no prior experience with computers, offering essential knowledge and skills necessary for academic and professional success in a digital world.
Module One
This first lesson focuses on device setup and foundational skills. The lesson goals are:
To become familiar with one another and the course.
To become skilled with the device and how it operates.
To create a Google Account.
To begin the evaluation process and take the pre-survey.
Module Two
This second lesson focuses on basic privacy and security, and browsing the internet. The goals for this lesson are:
To use Google Mail.
To have an intro to a browser and be able to search the Internet.
To gain an understanding of how to protect their data online and in communication.
To learn how to be a good digital citizen.
Module Three
This lesson focuses on using Google applications. The goals for this lesson are:
To gain an understanding of the various tools offered within Google Apps.
To be able to use appropriate tools for desired products and documents.
Module Four
This lesson is focused on privacy and security best practices. The student goals for this lesson are:
To protect their device from security threats.
To discern deep fakes, authoritative sources, and evaluating media.
To understand basic privacy and security issues with email and Internet
To gain an understanding of the various tools offered within Google Apps.
Module Five
This lesson is focused on using the internet for research, resources, and applications. The student goals for this lesson are:
To be able to use the Internet to access resources (e.g. telehealth, banking, bus routes, library).
To be able to add extensions and apps to browsers and devices.
Module Six
This lesson focuses on using social media, AI, and the student’s final showcase. The student goals for this lesson are:
To know the popular social media apps and sites.
To be able to use a social media app.
To possess a high-level understanding of AI and its potential implications.
To complete the post-evaluation.
